6 Ways to Celebrate Pride in 2020

Halfway through 2020 and we can all agree that this year has been unexpected, difficult for many, and not always positive.

That said, there have been a few uplifting moments. This week, the Supreme Court ruled that workplace discrimination against LGBT individuals is illegal. June is also Pride Month, a crucial period meant to recognize the impact of the LGBTQ+ community.

While COVID-19 certainly has made its mark on what would normally be a celebratory time, you can still support, commemorate, and advocate for social change with the LGBTQ+ community this June.

Here’s how:

THE HB PRIDE RIDE

June 20, 2020

Join The Handle Bar team for an empowering 75-minute ride, embracing and owning individuality throughout the journey. Tickets are $15 and the proceeds will benefit BAGLY, an organization that supports Boston’s LGBTQ+ youth community.

SWEET CHEEKS Q PRIDE CAKE

Entire month of June

A celebration of identity and diversity deserves a slice of cake (or many slices of cake). Call Sweet Cheeks Q to order a slice of vanilla cake made of all the colors of the rainbow.

PORCH PRIDE

June 20, 2020

You can stay safe, be outside, and still celebrate the LGBTQ+ liberation movement. Starting at 1 PM, head out to your porch, sidewalk, or wherever you have outdoor space, and wave at the members of your community keeping pride alive. Pride gear is optional, but always encouraged. Virtual programming will run from 12:30 to 5:30 PM.

BOSTON PRIDE ILLUMINATION

Entire month of June

If you’ve got a Pride flag, fly it. Show solidarity by putting your flag up, on your house, in your car, hanging from your window – anywhere it can be seen. From the city of Boston, this community effort will show your support all month.

FENWAY HEALTH VIRTUAL DINNER PARTY

June 24, 2020

Annually, this is a night for the Boston LGBTQIA+ community to remember, celebrate, and pledge to keep fighting for Fenway Health’s mission: that health care is a right, not a privilege. Make a donation of $100 or more to join the (virtual) party.

GLOBAL PRIDE

June 27, 2020

COVID-19 can’t stop you from celebrating Pride on a worldwide scale. Stream 24-hours of performances, speeches from activists, and public addresses. If you have internet in 2020, you can have Pride, too.
