Two New Local Figures Adorn The Verb Hotel’s Iconic Marquee

The Verb Hotel was buzzing with excitement last week as construction crews mounted two new images on its iconic street-side marquee.

Housed in a restored motel that opened in the 1950s (as the Howard Johnson, where bands like Aerosmith stayed when they played the nearby House of Blues), The Verb is attention-grabbing at first sight, now debuting two brand new photographs on its street-side marquee. Last Wednesday afternoon, the hotel’s development and on-site staff gathered at the foot of the historic marquee on Boylston Street to celebrate the new images.

Thaddeus Hogarth

The hotel’s mid-century modern concept asserts its historic place within the vibrant music scene in The Fenway and throughout Boston over the last half-century. The marquee, in addition to being the centerpiece of the building and a beacon for The Fenway neighborhood, offers a taste of the hotel’s authentic rock n’ roll experience to anyone who walks by.

A massive black-and-white photograph of Thaddeus Hogarth, a Berklee College of Music professor and frontrunner of the Thaddeus Hogarth Collective, now greets Verb guests. Jamming out on an electric guitar, Thaddeus fits right into the scene where we celebrate music and culture every day—from catching a game at Fenway Park (less than a five-minute walk), or enjoying a frozen cocktail at Hojoko. Hogarth has collaborated with Grammy Award nominees like reggae legend Sister Carol, and before his solo career, was the principal singer-songwriter and guitarist for Boston’s award-winning Heavy Metal Horns. If you ask nicely, he might show you a thing or two on the harmonica.

The Verb’s Freeze Frame Contest Winner Jen Conlon-Bates

Catch Jen Conlon-Bates—social media rockstar by day, hotrodder by night—opposite Thaddeus, posing on her wedding day. The photograph was the winner of The Verb’s Freeze Frame contest this fall, chosen from more than 150 submissions to appear on the marquee. Jen spends her free time cruising with her husband Danny and their pup Kalee in a custom designed 2021 Dodge Challenger Scatpack and 1956 Ford Customline. Jen is also the Vice President of Spindles Auto Club, one of the oldest continuously operating clubs in the country.
