The Alegria Quartet is a dynamic musical group formed by Brazilians Ian Coury on mandolin and Gabriel Maia on guitar, alongside Americans Alex Polydoroff on bass and Julian Pavone on drums. The quartet’s mission is to blend cultures and freely explore music from around the world, reinterpreting it with their unique arrangements and compositions. Their sound is infused with the vibrant, contemporary Brazilian Jazz and Pop language, creating a fresh and exciting musical experience. Led by mandolinist Ian Coury, who is passionate about expanding the mandolin’s role in various musical styles, the Alegria Quartet delivers joy through their energetic performances and improvisations. “Alegria” means joy, and this is precisely the essence they bring to every performance, captivating audiences with their lively and heartfelt music.
