The Fenway Back-to-School List: College Edition

Back to life. Back to re-a-lity. C’mon, you know you’re singing it, too. It’s time to say goodbye to the carefree days of summer and reign it in for the upcoming semester. But that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice all the fun— that’s impossible in the Fenway. So here’s a little primer of easy ways to get ready before things get real.

School Supplies

When things get cray, you know it’s going to get harder to squeeze those errands into your schedule, so get the major things done now. Stockpile Staples essentials like your favorite pens that always magically disappear (ahem, roommates…) and sticky notes which are key to keeping your life in order. Then head next door to Bed, Bath and Beyond for all your apartment necesseties. More of a night owl? Target is open until midnight every night!

A is for A Game

Start the semester off strong. Some simple confidence boosters can get you on your A Game from the get-go. Sephora’s the place to stock up on your favorite beauty products, arguably the most essential back to school supplies, and offers free beauty classes once a month. That’s the kind of class you don’t want to skip. Set aside an hour to treat your tresses to a blowout at BloDry Boutique, or pamper with a pedi at Miniluxe. Or, for the gents, experience the lost art of a straight razor/hot lather shave (one of just a few in town!) at Bostonian Barber Shop.

Snack Time

Before your mealtime M.O. becomes “grab and go,” treat yourself to the real deal. You know, sustenance that doesn’t come in a to-go container? Where you eat while seated? With other people? While not watching a DVR’d show? Or hunching over a laptop?  We’re thinking dinner at The Citizen Public House and Oyster Bar. Imagine sitting at a table, surrounded by friends, while being served oysters or sampling a whiskey you’ve never tried before. For the first time ever, they’re taking reservations, so get on that. If you’re really on top of things, call ahead to splurge on a family-style pig roast.

Fill in the Blanks

There’s only so much you can piece together from Insta posts. The best way to find out what your friends did this summer is to reconvene over drinks. So get the cold, hard facts over some cold, hard liquor. Head down to Hojoko in the Verb Hotel for some Japanese tavern-style snacks accompanied by concoctions like a Tokyo Tea, Geisha Ninja, or Banana Phone, or just your favorite craft beer.

Gym Class

Establish your workout routine now so that it becomes, well, routine, by the time the chaos sets in. It’s a great way to keep that stress in check. Stay swole at Boston Sports Club, or get your spin on by taking a class at The Handle Bar. Prefer to ride outside? Set between the Charles River and the Emerald Necklace, The Fenway is as bike-friendly as it gets!
