December in The Fenway

They say this is the most wonderful time of the year. And they are right. Not just because of the holidays – though we’re not complaining about the extra food, drinks and gift-giving – but also because of all the activity that starts now and lasts 31 beautiful days.

At least in our neighborhood, between now and the New Year, it’s one big party. Complete with grand openings, decorations, deals, and concerts, December tops the list of our favorite months in The Fenway.

DECEMBER 1-3, 5-10

Instead of ho, ho, ho, try ha, ha, ha – Huntington Theatre

This Huntington Theatre Company production of Tartuffe is all the drama you need this holiday season. Even though it’s actually a comedy. Either way, it’s better than getting into fights over holiday meals!

Get branded – Sephora Fenway

If you’re on a specific brand band wagon, Sephora’s Saturday brand appearances might just be your chance to get the inside scoop. With brand partners on site from Drunk Elephant and Clinique respectively, you can have a chat or experience a service with them!

Give the Gift of Gardner – Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Here’s yet another reason to become a member: from December 2nd through the 17th, all members get 20% off gifts! No need to dwell on what to get someone when the perfect gift awaits you at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum… and at an insane discount!

DECEMBER 3-9, 11, 12, 14, 17, 20-22, 26, 28-31

Get Ready to Rock – House of Blues

Ok, not to be The Grinch, but sometimes even the jolliest of people could use a break from the holiday music playing on every channel during December. The House of Blues is here to give you a brief respite, even if just for one night. And since The Verb Hotel is giving away two tickets to the BMAs on December 7th, a one-night escape from the holiday cheer might be easier than you’d expect!

DECEMBER 3, 10, 17, 31

Get Glam – Sephora Fenway

This time of year, you probably have a thousand parties to attend. Maybe you want to go, maybe you’d rather be at home sipping cocoa and watching TV. Either way, each holiday event is made easier if you’re confident in your skin. And Sephora wants to help that cause by teaching you how to go from Everyday-to-Holiday with their weekly beauty classes.

Grab a Joe From Kings Row (Coffee) – 401 Park

Boston’s newest coffee kiosk opens up on Monday, and for that reason (and because they are AWESOME), they will be passing out free samples of hot coffee and nitro cold brew all week. They will also be handing out ‘Next One’s On Us’ coupons, redeemable for a free 12 oz. coffee. Apparently, they’re as excited about giving us our morning jolt as we are about getting it.

Hop on Boston Pops – Symphony Hall

This might just become a new tradition for you and your loved ones. At this time of year, the Boston Pops is all about bringing you cheer with their performance of holiday music and sing-alongs. If this won’t get you in the mood for sparkling lights, gift-giving and family togetherness, then nothing will!

Light up the night – Kelleher Rose Garden

If you’re a community person – and in this neighborhood, how could you be anything else? – then you obviously won’t want to miss the Fenway Civic Association’s tree lighting. It happens once a year, it’s paired with music from the Berklee A Cappella Group, and it’s an opportunity to celebrate with the rest of The Fenway!

DECEMBER 7, 14, 21, 28

Make ROOM (68) for more gifts – Room 68, 1323 Boylston Street

If the stress of gift-giving is getting to you, then shopping for your loved ones during one of Room 68’s Thursday Receptions is the way to go. With tastings and new art collections to enjoy at each weekly event, you’ll barely realize you’re shopping until you stumble upon the perfect gift for your mom, brother or… dog.

Go Baroque listening to Boston’s favorite orchestra & chorus – NEC’s Jordan Hall

All puns aside, the tickets to this famous show are very reasonable. And not for lack of quality. This annual tradition features top singers alongside Boston Baroque’s Grammy-nominated orchestra and chorus, and is bound to enchant to pickiest of music lovers.

Get down to the Lansdowne (Pub) – Lansdowne Pub

No holiday season is complete without food and beer. Luckily, Lansdowne Pub is hosting their 4-course, $45 Harpoon Beer Dinner. Their chef will pair specialty dishes with four different Harpoon Brewery Beers, all while a Harpoon rep teaches attendees about what they are drinking. So, tasty and educational, win-win!

Be festive with The Festival of Lights – Museum of Fine Arts

The MFA knows how to celebrate Hanukkah. With candle lighting. And face-painting. And art-making. And story-telling. This one-of-a-kind evening will light up your month, literally, and it will do so for free.

Dance your way through December – Boston University Dance Theatre

Maybe you’re not the traditional type, in which case you’re the perfect fit for The Fenway. And for ‘What the Dickens!’ – an urban, contemporary dance twist on a well-known holiday tale. Ballet, tap, hip hop, contemporary, and Charles Dickens. What else does this December need?
