Friendsgiving in The Fenway: 8 Awesome Holiday Hangouts

Happy Holidays from The Fenway! Whether you’re hosting a Friendsgiving, headed out with the family for a holiday dinner alternative—or if you just can’t make it home, The Fenway offers several drinking and dining destinations on Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Eve. Below is a list of our favorites, each offering a unique experience and another option to the traditional holiday hangout.

Open on Thanksgiving

Eastern Standard
528 Commonwealth Avenue, 617-532-9100

It’s business as usual for Eastern Standard on Wednesday, and when it comes to Thanksgiving Day, the world-class hotel restaurant always offers up something special. Eastern Standard has been a go-to Turkey Day destination since its inception. From non-traditional families seeking an alternative dinner option without the cooking or clean up, to those who have had enough family bonding and need an escape plan, Eastern Standard serves a special Prix Fixe holiday menu with à la carte options from 1 to 8 p.m., and a limited late-night menu for the rest of us so we don’t start too early on the family leftovers. Oh, and let’s not forget why many of us come back year after year—some of the best-crafted cocktails in the country...the perfect complement to all of your family’s eccentricities.

Gyu Kaku
1002 Beacon Street, 617-264-6190

During any big holiday, when most of the city shuts down, you can always count on a few local Asian restaurants to keep their lights on. Gyu Kaku is that place for our Fenway-focused diners. But be prepared, it may be a little busy. Open regular hours from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., you can forget that stuffy tradition of turkey and stuffing and treat those around you to some traditional Japanese BBQ. But beware, you’ll still have to do a little cooking. Just choose your ingredients and cook them up on the traditional Japanese-style stovetop built into your table. They will take care of the dishes though!

Bar Louie
121 Brookline Avenue, 617-449-7010

The restaurant that provides a home away from home for guests of the adjoining Residence Inn will open on Thanksgiving Day at 5 p.m. and you don’t have to be a guest to join in on the fun. Meet some out-of-towners as you dine and drink in the expansive restaurant while sipping on some cocktails and eating your favorite comfort foods on elegant leather seats.

Audubon
838 Beacon Street, 617-421-1910

Audubon is excited to host one of their favorite service holidays of the year, open from 7 p.m until 1 a.m. serving drinks and light snacks on Thanksgiving, and open at 7 p.m on Thanksgiving eve. According to owner, Jay Bellao, you can expect, “people with family, people running away from their family and a lot of fellow service industry people from the area with smiles on their faces. It’s awesome!”

Open Thanksgiving Eve

Tiger Mama
1363 Boylston Street, 617-425-6262

Treat your friends to food and drinks at Tiffani Faison’s Southeast Asian destination. Once you’re inside you’ll feel like you’re on vacation. Enjoy Singapore Street Noodles, Bun Chai Hanoi, pad thai and lobster rolls in a jungle-themed room that makes you think you’re anywhere but Boston.

Bleacher Bar
82A Lansdowne Street, 617-262-2424

While Thanksgiving is one of the few days Bleacher Bar closes its doors, they are open on Thanksgiving Eve—and if your friends are sports fans, there isn’t any place better to host a holiday get together. Sure, there won’t be a Red Sox game to watch, but you can bet that there will be plenty of sports on the TVs as you look out onto the empty outfield of one of baseball’s most-cherished venues.

Hojoko
1271 Boylston Street, 617-670-0507

If it has been a while since your friends have been back in Boston, there’s a good chance they’ve never had the pleasure of dining and drinking at Hojoko. With sushi, sake, unique cocktails and frozen drinks in a space like no other, Hojoko offers a unique venue for your family and friends. Bonus, throughout the holiday season, if you book your "Friendsgiving" or holiday party with Hojoko, you can sleepover at the Verb for only $99 per night!

Island Creek Oyster Bar
500 Commonwealth Avenue, 617-532-5300

If you plan on meeting friends who have moved far away, it’s a safe bet that they may miss that famous New England seafood. If so, head to Island Creek Oyster Bar on Thanksgiving Eve and see what its ever-changing menu is cooking up that day. From down-home dishes to one of the greatest raw bars anywhere in the world, Island Creek is your place for the freshest local fish and oysters.
