Best Dive Bars in Boston

Sometimes we need to trade in the candlelight dinners and imported wine for a pint of domestic suds served on a sticky bar. There are too many to compile into one list, but here are some of our favorite places to saddle up and "take the dive" in Boston:

The Draft

Located on Harvard Ave, The Draft has a little something for everyone: pool tables, some funky arcade games, and a little stage in the corner for  to sing on.

Lansdowne Pub

The Lansdowne pub has a reputation as the Fenway’s most happening Irish bar.

What’s the dive factor?

For a dive bar, Lansdowne has people lining up on a Saturday night.  Instead of hearing a DJ spin top 40 all night, switch it up with a cover band playing your favorite Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Calvin Harris tunes. Karaoke night is a blast too.

Silhouette Cocktail Lounge

Although its name is a bit deceiving, the “Silhouette Cocktail Lounge” in Allston holds all of the dive bar essentials.  Darts, pool table, jukebox, and the welcoming regulars make it hard to say no to drink number two.

Free popcorn!

Beacon Hill Pub

Walking on Charles St. can sometimes make you feel like you have been transported to the cobble stone streets of Europe.  Stocked with a great beer selection, Beacon Hill Pub could easily make you feel like you are in Europe by the end of the night.

Cash only bar has vintage arcade games - even Buck Hunter.

Cantab Lounge

Located in Central Square, the Cantab Lounge is a dive mixed with a little bit of your Grandmother's living room.  With music nights like Picken’ Bluegrass Tuesdays, locals in Cambridge have been calling Cantabs their favorite dive for years.

What’s the dive factor?

It offers a diverse group of people and a wide range of musical styles, from open mics to poetry slams.

T’s Pub

T’s may as well be called home for many of the college students living on Comm Ave. Coined “the place to meet,” T's features cheap beer and tacky music video screens, and Karaoke on Tuesdays.

$11 Rolling Rock Pitchers before 10 pm.

Anchovies has been a South End staple since the early 90s. Dim lighting, a neighborly crowd of regulars and generous portions of Italian comfort food make this "hole in the wall" a favorite among Bostonians.

What's the dive factor?

The decor: A deer head, marlins, vintage pictures, and a drag queen's heels stuck to the ceiling.
