It takes a lot to be honored with a Boston Music Awards Song of the Year nomination. There must be a local angle and a universal appeal. Ideally the song should be emotive, well-crafted, lyrically poignant and instrumentally sound with a staying power that lingers in the minds and hearts of the listeners for years to come, but realistically the ultimate say remains in the hands of the nominators and the voters. With that in mind, we bring you this year’s nominations for the BMA’s Song of the Year. Each is very different in sound, style and message, but has justly earned its way into the category for the locals to vote upon.
The holiday season is a fantastic time of year for getting together with family & friends over a home-cooked meal or around a warm fire on a winter’s night. This year, instead of buying everyone socks for the Yankee Swap or bringing a boring green bean casserole to the potluck, why not give the gift that everyone really wants? That’s right. Beer. Even better: delicious craft beer made locally by the amazing brewmasters in the Greater Boston area.
Hatch Fenway continues its amazing run of bringing startup talent to the neighborhood by welcoming Appcues into their coworking hub in the Landmark Center. Appcues is an innovative software service that helps software companies create personalized user experiences without needing help from developers.
In a continued effort to preserve Boston’s rock ‘n roll history, The Verb Hotel in The Fenway has acquired yet another integral piece of the city’s historic cultural landscape. Located in the hotel’s parking lot, majestically raised above a new mural by Adam O’Day, read the words “Stairway to Heaven.”
It’s officially fall—and while many Bostonians are wistfully bemoaning the end of summer, others are excitedly gearing up for the upcoming ski season at the host of amazing ski mountains throughout the New England region like Mad River Glen, Cannon, and Sugarloaf.
Hojoko – The Verb Hotel’s rock ‘n roll sushi and late-night hotspot—may just be the coolest new kid on the Boylston block in The Fenway. The dark-wood izakaya hangout feels like the inside of a 1960s Japanese jukebox with its paper lanterns and neon pop fixtures, katakana posters of famous rock bands, open kitchen in the back and a long chrome and green formica bar, mood lit for intimate conversations over inventive cocktails.
Hatch Fenway—the neighborhood’s innovation hub for creative professionals and scaling startups—has a stellar lineup of dynamic talks and meetups this November. General Assembly brings together local designers to discuss the startup fashion scene in Boston and Creative Mornings hosts a conversation on the nature of creative work.
